Leadership Development Program

2006-2007 Participants and Faculty

The Leadership Development Program (LDP) identifies, encourages and trains individuals for leadership roles in the local, regional and national church and for other leadership roles in the community.  The Leadership Development Program facilitates the exploration, recognition, claiming and exercising of each individual's gifts.

Further, the LDP course was developed and has been successfully implemented as an outgrowth of the Bishop & Executive Council's sponsored "EDOMI Strategic Plan" which highlights five key focuses for attaining a better future for the Diocese.  One of those key areas is the enhanced development of leadership and congregations.  As Baptized Christians, we are empowered to do so many things to serve -- not nearly enough of us are -- or feel -- able.  To me -- this program provides the 'empowered' to be better 'enabled.'

Even a careful reading of the attached brochure does not fully reflect the richness of the experience of the participants.  Not only do particpants experience a wealth of knowledge but walk with other seekers and form deep life long relationships.  There is a strong spiritual component woven into this program and upheld by an onsight chaplain.

  • Identifying one's personality type and taking part in a spiritual gifts discernment exercise to understand one's type and gifts, how they are assets and how they enhances the effectiveness of your time and a groups times when working within that dynamic.
  • Listening & Storytelling, how do we tell our stories and communicate with others effectively.
  • Leadership in the Church and Conflict Resolution, tools necessary for effective meetings and the fundamentals of decisioin making and conflict resolution.
  • The history of the Anglican Episcopal Church in America with round table discussions.
  • How leadership can transform and support others as well as oneself.

There are a number of people in various congregations who would make 'perfect' candidates for participation in this program.  They would be better able to assist their congregation, their community, the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan and so many other situations where their own enlightened self-interest could meet with available opportunities to serve.
